Biography

Dr. Poland is the Mary Lowell Leary Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is a nationally and internationally known expert in the field of vaccines and biodefense. Dr. Poland was awarded the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service in 2004, and a Doctor of Humane Letters by Illinois Wesleyan University in 2005, the Dr. Charles Merieux Lifetime Achievement Award in Vaccinology and Immunology by the Foundation Merieux and the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases in 2006, the Secretary of Defense Award for Excellence in 2008, and was awarded a Mastership in the American College of Physicians in 2008. His opinions are frequently sought nationally and he is frequently interviewed by major print and broadcast media (ABC Nightly News, NBC Evening News, CNN, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, LA Times, Atlanta Journal Constitution, St. Petersburg Times, Minneapolis Star and Tribune, Jim Lehrer News Hour, PBS, and many others)
